POPULAR EDUCATION FOR SOCIAL CHANGE
NDLON’s approach to leadership development is based on the principles and techniques of Popular Education, a pedagogical theory and practice designed to raise the consciousness of its participants and enable them to become more aware of how an individual’s experiences are connected to broader socio-political forces. Changing the societal structures that perpetuate exploitation and repression of day laborers requires the active involvement of day laborers themselves. However, true participation can only be achieved through collective processes that promote the development of critical thinking skills and analytical perspectives. Thus, without enhancing the leadership abilities of day laborers, change will not take place. Leadership development through Popular Education, as we understand it, is a collective teaching-learning process with political implications. In this process, people learn while developing skills as leaders and transforming the reality in which they are immersed. |
